Fruitful collaboration with Simone Heber and Anne Ephrussi @EMBL. The next step towards understanding RNA transport. Here, Simone could show how Tropomyosin prevents a Tug-of-War between Kinesin- and Dynein-mediated transport to bring the RNA cargo to the right place for translation (here: oskar mRNA from the nurse cells to the posterior pole of the oocyte in a Drosophila embryo). She could reconstitute active transport in vitro to visualize this process using TIRF microscopy. We contribute NMR and SAXS data to derive a structural model of a full-length Kinesin-Tropomyosin complex.
