Here we show that the C domains of the blood coagulation protein von Willebrand factor have consistently two subdomains, which move with respect to each other in nanosecond to millisecond time scales. This is essential for assisting in platelet formation during wound healing. Mutations related to an increased risk in myocardial infarction (heart attack) affect these dynamics.
